Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS A CLINICAL TRIAL?

A clinical trial is a voluntary medical research study conducted to test either medications or devices made by pharma or medical device companies. In the United States, pharmaceutical companies are not permitted to evaluate whether the drugs they create are safe and effective. For this reason, a neutral third-party, such as the Clinical Research Center of Florida, is contracted to assist in running the study.

There are four phases in clinical trials: Phase I, Phase II, Phase III, Phase IV. Medications and devices must successfully pass through one phase to be approved for the next. At the Clinical Research Center of Florida, we successfully conduct all four phases. Phase I studies test whether a medication or device is safe. Phase I studies may require overnight stays in our state-of-the-art facility. Phase II studies test the effectiveness of a drug. Phase III studies confirm the positive results regarding the safety and effectiveness of a drug. Such studies are conducted on a much larger group of people. Phase IV studies occur to analyze the medication’s performance in real-life scenarios and/or study the drug’s long-term risks and benefits.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE IN A CLINICAL TRIAL?

There are many reasons people participate in clinical trials. Some of the most critical reasons to participate include access to medical information, advancing medical science, and possible relief from symptoms.

Medical information: Every participant in our clinical trials receives a free medical evaluation, which includes a medical examination and your vital signs. This examination may also include an analysis of your labs.

Advancing medical science: Your participation in a clinical trial may help make the world a better place. Clinical trial results provide researchers and patients with detailed information on both the benefits and potential treatments’ risks.

Relief from symptoms: You may be experiencing an ailment and, even after trying the current standard of care treatment(s) available, you have not found a treatment that worked for you. A new investigational product may offer the relief and benefit that you are seeking.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?

Participating in a clinical trial is free. Every participant in our clinical trials receives a medical evaluation. At a minimum, this includes a medical examination and your vital signs. This examination may also include an analysis of your labs, all at no cost to you. Participants are also reimbursed a minimum of $25 per scheduled visit for time and travel. The exact amount of compensation varies with each study.
